Editorial Board
Meet the editorial structure guiding the Journal of Video Research and Scientific Methods, and learn how editorial responsibilities are managed.
Editorial leadership
The Journal of Video Research and Scientific Methods is guided by an editorial team with responsibility for scope, quality, research integrity and fair assessment. Editors evaluate scholarly merit independently from commercial or production services. A decision to submit a project for visual production does not influence editorial review.
Roles and responsibilities
Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief provides academic direction, maintains the journal’s scope and policies, oversees editorial decisions and supports consistent standards across subject areas. The role includes monitoring conflicts of interest, ensuring appropriate handling of appeals and research integrity concerns, and reviewing the journal’s policies as publishing practices evolve.
Associate and Section Editors
Section Editors manage submissions in their areas of expertise. They assess fit, select suitable reviewers, evaluate reports and recommend a decision. They should communicate clear expectations, protect confidentiality and disclose or manage conflicts before handling a manuscript.
Editorial Board Members
Board members advise on journal development, subject coverage, publishing standards and methods for improving the usefulness of visual scholarship. They may review submissions within their expertise, recommend qualified reviewers, help identify emerging research areas and provide feedback on editorial policies. Board membership does not guarantee acceptance of a member’s own work or that of colleagues.
Video Methods and Reproducibility Advisors
Advisors with relevant methods, technical or media expertise may help assess whether a video communicates the procedure accurately, whether key steps are visible, and whether the written record provides enough detail to interpret or reproduce the work. They do not replace subject-matter peer review.
Reviewers
Reviewers provide independent, confidential advice on the scientific and methodological quality of submissions. They are selected for relevant expertise and are asked to disclose conflicts, respect confidentiality and provide constructive, evidence-based feedback.
Editorial independence and conflicts
Editors should not handle work where a personal, institutional, financial or collaborative relationship could reasonably affect impartiality. The submission is reassigned when appropriate. Board members and reviewers are expected to declare relevant interests. Editorial decisions are based on the submitted work and published criteria, not on the ability to pay a fee or purchase a service.
Board appointment and service
Editorial appointments should reflect appropriate subject expertise, research or professional experience, integrity and the needs of the journal. The journal aims for a board with a useful range of disciplines, methods, career stages and geographic perspectives. Appointments and terms should be reviewed periodically. Board members are expected to respond to invitations responsibly, maintain confidentiality and update their disclosures.
Board member profiles
Verified member names, institutional affiliations, areas of expertise, ORCID identifiers where available, role titles and appointment dates will be published here after appointments are confirmed and each person has approved their profile. The journal does not publish unverified names or imply that an individual has agreed to serve.
